Look at the readers' comments in the first link. Many comments are shocking. It is not clear whether people really believe in these things or whether they feel that they should push for their percieved interests without bothering about facts or logic.
I see similar disurbing trends about reviving 'vedic mathematics', ancient Indian science etc.
